What was your most memorable on-set moment?

'There's a scene where I'm teaching my brother how to swim, but the lake we were filming in was fucking Baltic. I had to be naked too, so I got the piss taken out of me.'

Describe yourself in three words or less.

'Supernatural Italian.'

Who is your BFF?

'I'm really good friends with Elliott Tittensor who used to be in Shameless. We used to live together and then we were both cast in a film called Spike Island playing best friends. It was mad.'

Beyoncé might have declared ‘GIRLS!’ the answer to the question, ‘who run the world?’, and you know the car she drivin’? She bought it. But she wasn’t anywhere near as vehemently in support of womankind when British Vogue asked her whether she was a feminist: “That word can be very extreme ... But I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything?”

As a woman held up as an icon for equality, why so cagey about the F word Mrs Carter?

Here’s five reasons why feminism should not be a dirty word:

1) What do you want to do with your life? Get a cool job? Move to New York and meet a guy that looks like Adam Driver? ANYTHING YOU WANT? Good thing feminism’s got in the way of the ol’ parent’s house to husband’s house trajectory that was on offer to girls of yore then.

2) President Obama recently congratulated Kamala Harris on being the ‘best looking attorney general in the country’. Never mind being good at her job if she’s pretty, right? Disagree? OH HAI feminism.

3) How much do you love Girls? Guess what – if it wasn’t for feminism, Lena Dunham wouldn't be given creative freedom by one of America’s major networks to honestly explore what young women are really like, and not just how guys think they should be.

4) So you know that guy at work who’s getting paid more than you but probably spends way longer dicking around on the internet? You cool with that? Nah, nor is feminism.

5) Did you think it was way harsh that Princeton Mom suggested her son’s female classmates would find their dating options reduced to slim pickings the older she got? You’re probably a feminist then.

We spoke to singer/songwriter Phreeda Sharp, a hot new female rapper whose latest mixtape is making waves about her favourite street influences.

What are your top five street songs?

Kendrick Lamar - Backseat Freestyle. Kendrick Lamar is such a great lyricist & the entire "good kid, m.A.A.d city" album is amazing but this track in particular is a stand out for me. I loved the beat so much I did my own cover of it on my upcoming release.

Ester Dean - Bam Bam Bam (Harlem Shake Remix). Ester Dean is so talented! She is better known for writing hits for other artists, including Rihanna and Beyoncé, but she's about to release a solo album. She reminds me of Missy Elliott and the video for the original version of this track definitely has Missy influences too but this Bauuer Harlem Shake remix is too much! I love it!

Dot Rotten - Karmageddon. Sick flow, chanty chorus over a drum & bass style beat with a guitar break - I love the combination! It’s one of my favourite tracks from 2012.

ASAP Rocky - Wild for the night ft Skrillex & Birdy Nam Nam. I'm obsessed with screwed vocals & raps over mad quirky beats. Just makes me want to grab my girls and hit a basement club in Shoreditch.

Future - Turn on the lights. I only came across Future recently when I heard him on Lil Wayne's new single. I'm so in love with his voice - it reminds me of singers back home in Ghana and West Africa but also has a lovely reggae vibe to it too. The massive bass line gets me every time!

Who are your top five street icons?

Jay Z - he's like my idol. To come from nothing and create such an empire is so inspiring. All his status & wealth aside, he is still one of my favourite rappers. He never lets me down musically.

Missy Elliot - I don't think I've ever met another female rapper that hasn't been influenced by Missy. She’s so innovative. Her fashion style is so fun and original. She pushed boundaries with her music & videos and I admire that about her.

Banksy - I think artistically he's an amazing part of UK street art. His works are provoking, challenging and daring. Personally I think to be able to give voice to social, political and current issues through your work is the ultimate achievement for any artist and he does that so well.

Dizzie Rascal - Dizzie my favourite UK rapper. So cheeky but endearing. To me he was the first to really make UK hip hop commercial, in a way that I liked, and that made a huge change in the way other rappers followed up. "Fix up look sharp" is my jam!

Tinie Tempah - I respect Tinie a lot and I think like Dizzie he really broadened the UK grime scene. He made it cool sexy and fashionable. He brought fashion and style to the underground and he changed the way guys dressed. Bye bye hoodies and baggy jeans, hello fitted suits and immaculate trainers. Very hot!

Who are your top five street style icons?

Rihanna - she's like a sexy chameleon! Whatever she does or tries always works and I think it's because she always owns it. I just love how experimental, daring and fearless she is. She is also not afraid to celebrate her sexuality, which I love.

Grace Jones - she's not really ‘street’ but I am completely and utterly obsessed with Grace Jones. When I was little my mom loved her and even shaved her hair just like hers and I remember thinking how iconic it looked! She has inspired so many female artists over the years. She was so original. Scary but so beautiful. She's a legend.

Omahyra Mota – she’s my favourite androgynous model. Her look is so edgy, moody and hard but still very sexy. Just looking at her work inspires me when it comes to my artwork and photo shoots. Cassie - she's so beautiful and her style always looks so effortless. She made every girl want to shave the side of their head & rock ghetto gold.

Cara Delevingne - she's so popular right now I couldn't leave her out. I like how relaxed her natural style is, it's almost scruffy but she pulls it off. I also like that she encourages girls to own their weirdness, to make what they would normally see as faults into something pretty. Plus I'm sure she's just revolutionised eyebrow shaping worldwide!
