Steal Diane Kruger’s sheepskin style

by Laura Silver, 27 March 2013

Since spring is being sheepish about arriving, you may as well do as Diane Kruger has and work a bit of shearling into your look. Sure, it might seem mad to still be styling out coat trends, but a) have you BEEN outside? b) sheepskin’s as classic as an LBD so you know you’ll be rocking it for years and c) Glastonbury, 3am, floral slip-dress, you get the picture.

Top tip: raid vintage and charity shops for sheepskin now. While everyone else is thinking about the new season, you might just strike gold (or sheep).

Earn your stripes for under £100

by Gavin Jewkes, 07 February 2013

Is there any better feeling than scoring a whole new outfit for a cool £100? Probably. But kitting yourself out with a clean new look at this price still leaves you feeling pretty smug.

Of course, black skinny jeans are a given, as is a pair of Vans (note the tasty shade of crimson suede – very nice). And, if it’s going to be this cold, you might as well suck it up and take the opportunity to showcase some powerful headgear, like this fairisle knit bobble hat.

However, the real power player here has to be the jumper.

Nautical stripes are where it’s at for Spring 2013, and for good reason. While there’s a veritable avalanche of new trends lobbying for your attention this season (among them, graphic animal prints and bleached denim), stripy stuff is without doubt the most wearable.

This jumper is an updated take on the famous Breton style worn by Frenchmen and pseudo-intellectuals the world over. But instead of the traditional blue stripes, this jumper has red ones. Hardly a game-changing colour switch, but it’s enough of a refresh to warrant your serious consideration.

Outfit of the week: live fast, die young

by Gavin Jewkes, 06 February 2013

Buying a biker jacket is a rite of passage, like growing a beard or getting drunk for the first time. And, like them, it comes with a major risk of embarrassment if rushed into. A carefully chosen biker jacket, however, looks really slick and won’t leave you looking like your old man during his midlife crisis. The problem being, leather's expensive.

For anyone who isn’t ready to invest in the real deal just yet, though, here’s a winning alternative. Step in, the faux leather biker jacket. All the bonuses of its cowhide equivalent – versatile, well-cut and packed with attitude – minus the hefty price tag.

For a strong look that borders Brando/McQueen territory, wear with a check shirt, slim-fit jeans and a decent pair of Chelsea boots. And, of course, a vague air of aloofness.
