The new celeb obsession? All latex errthang. First, the annual Pirelli calendar dropped (a must-see if you haven't yet). Then, Kim Kardashian shut it down on a Melbourne red carpet in nude PVC. And to prove it's no fluke, Kate Moss beat the London chill in a black latex ensemble last night. You're probably thinking, 'Where are they getting these dresses?' We're one step ahead of you: introducing Atsuko Kudo, the designer that keeps Kimmy, Kate and many other stars looking wipe-clean. Here's the scoop on the brand bringing fetishwear to high fashion.
Let's face it: rubber isn't the best thing to wear to the office – and Kudo understands that. 'It doesn't make you warm like wool; doesn't have a daily function like cotton. It's a shiny second skin that is in some ways restrictive and feels very different on your skin. You need to use talcum powder or lubricant to wear it. You wear latex for your pleasure,' she told Daily Metal. Basically, having a glam squad on deck at all times doesn't hurt.

The brand, launched in 2001, already has major industry cred. Aside from being a go-to for A-listers, Kudo has collaborated with Lady Gaga's former creative director Nicola Formichetti, helping to produce pieces for the AW11 Mugler line. This also spawned some epic Gaga lewks – most notably the red, ruffled, rubber masterpiece she rocked to meet the Queen (!) back in 2009. In partnership with SHOWstudio and Nick Knight (one of Kim and Kanye's BFFs), Kudo appeared in Dressing For Pleasure, a video that showcases her designs. 'It's empowering,' she said of latex. 'You become like Superwoman!'

Kudo is well aware that her designs are probably not tea-with-mum appropes: 'Latex was a fetish fabric in the past and it still is now,' she admitted. For example, your nan probably isn't DTR (which obvs stands for 'down to rubber'), but it's come a long way. The success of Fifty Shades Of Grey (we're all counting the days) and the increased red carpet presence are only making the trend more and more popular. Just peep Miley and Kim: they're onboard. Are you?
