The 67th Cannes Film Festival kicks off this week, when Europe's beautiful people congregate on the French Riviera for a fortnight of sunbathing, cinema and sultry summer glamour. Or when sweaty critics and increasingly anxious film distributors cram into early morning screenings in a desperate quest to anoint the next Blue Is The Warmest Colour.

We're choosing to focus on the former image and while we can't magically transport you into the effortlessly cool shoes of French actor Alain Delon circa 1962, we can help you recreate the classic Cote d'Azur playboy style. Throw on a lightweight yet slim-fit linen shirt in a pastel colour, a pair of smart, sun-ready slacks and toss a cream blazer over your shoulder (you won't wear it, but you may need to warm the bare shoulders of a starlet or two, you old dog). Accessorise with a plaited belt and timeless summer loafers, and you'll be wooing some latter-day Romy Schneider in no time. But leave the Gauloises at home – it's a dirty habit.
