Along with ethically questionable intelligence gathering, the US of A has been successfully exporting something else for the last few years: TV.

This year it was Breaking Bad, which concluded in September and more than lived up to the hype. And next up is True Detective in 2014, HBO's latest high-profile drama that will not only give us something to look forward to, but also something to talk about with colleagues we'd otherwise have zero in common with.

Starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, this is an epic crime drama spanning 17-years, as Detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson) hunt a brutal serial killer.

It might not sound hugely original now, but with the solid-gold cast and a cracking new trailer below, we're already getting excited, and perhaps a little bit depressed. Glee this is not.
