High-intensity hues, a streetwear edge and ridiculously flattering cuts: Emma Mulholland’s special brand of beach-meets-street-meets-90s has made her a designer to watch at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
We spoke to the Sydney designer as she gets ready for her debut show about her style, design and surviving the craziness that is Fashion Week.
I’d describe my style as: Comfortable and eclectic
….But other people might describe it as: Colourful and weird
My most treasured/ worn style piece is: My cold blooded chiller bomber
My biggest design inspiration: Surf wear from the '90s
My favourite piece from my S/S collection on: The rainbow trout shirt
I’d describe the collection as: Clean and bright with lots of great cuts and embelishments
What I’m most excited about at MBFWA: Working with an incredible team
Australian fashion is…. Full of potential
You should never go to Fashion Week without: Your phone
My biggest Fashion Week “do” is: Staying calm
…and my biggest “don’t”: Stand around all day trying to get street styled
My best memory of any Fashion Week so far: Showing my graduation collection in the new innovators parade
…..And my worst: I lost the keys to my studio the night before the show and had to get a locksmith come at 3am so we could all keep working.
