We find out what inspired the latest ASOS Revive collection designed by Ebru Ercon, and the accompanying short film by Art Director Anna Walker and Director Zaiba Jabbar
-
ANNA WALKER
Art Director of the ASOS Revive short film
‘The film has a lo-fi, VHS feel, like an old music video. We wanted a high-energy snapshot that summed up the collection and our main reference was Inner City’s Big Fun video, plus footage of clubbers from the ‘70s and ‘80s put together by artist Mark Leckey. It’s a hypnotic collage of people dancing.’
-
Zaiba Jabbar
Director of the ASOS Revive short film
‘I didn’t want the film to feel too contrived. It's not easy to get the right atmosphere when creating something like this, for example, people dance differently now, they just don't realise it. This meant our choreographer had to be really attuned to getting the dancing spot on so it didn't look out of place.’

ASOS Revive Designer
‘With this collection, I looked back to the ‘80s and early ‘90s when the youth had a very creative power that actually changed things. The clothes are heavily influenced by the music of that time: light, movement-orientated items you can dance in. It felt right for this to be expressed on film by young guns like Zaiba and Anna. ASOS Revive is as much about the energy of young women now as in that era.’
